“Blip stream looks great!”

October 26, 2012 - By - Tags: ,

Without question, the biggest laugh from last last weekend. From the always awesome Peter Swimm, whose True Chip Till Death is still sorely missed.

Unfortunately, I was not able to check out the Blip Tokyo 2k12 livestream last weekend, nor make it out to Japan period. Instead, I’ve simply been living vicariously through friends on Instagram. Speaking of, how about another batch?

I’m actually going to post pics of the show proper next time, and instead have something from one of the numerous satellite events. Like this one, from Bit Shifter, of Omodaka in action. This man was far and away the highlight of Blip New York 2k12…

In addition to pics from the show itself, I’ve also dug stuff from outside, of people checking out the wonders that Japan contains. Like Nullsleep‘s visit to Cafe La Siesta, otherwise known as the chiptune cafe…

What trip to Japan is complete without swinging by the arcades? Here we see that Jeremiah has come across Cho Chabudai Gaeshi, that game in which you flip a table in a fit of rage for points (aka if someone made a game based upon my dad)…

It’s also a place to buy cool stuff, like these Mother/Earthbound figures that my pal Dannel managed to score…

I also love this other pic by Josh, of Goferboy roaming the streets at night…

Meanwhile, across the Pacific, was Game Night 11. Our friends at Giant Robot took the following, of some new Meat Bun shirts that had their debut last weekend!

Speaking of, if you check out Mike McWhertor‘s feed, you’ll easily see where the inspirations for their designs come from…

Noted game journalist and author Simon Parkin is a guy who is also always on the go. Last week he was at the League of Legends world final…

And just this morning, he posted some kid playing Proteus while hopping on a trampoline, and while dressed as a frog, at some other game function…

A lot has been happening here in NYC as well. I recently went to the unveiling of the latest line of Garbage Pail Kids cards (yes they still make ‘em), where I caught this game related reference. For more about the event as a whole, simply head here

Immediately afterward was the New York Comic Con, which I haven’t had a chance to blog about, so here are some highlights from that weekend for this end, mostly in the form of cosplay. Like this kick-ass Mega Man X…

This dude was awesome cuz A) I love Virtua Fighter, and B) he was serious business. He made damn sure that I knew how to pronounce his character’s name, Kage-Maru, properly…

Here’s a girl cosplaying as someone following that Oregon Trail

The more conceptual, the better. Like this other girl has simply Duck Hunt. Not a character from the game, but the game as a whole…

Another highlight was the ShiftyLook arcade, which presented old (and rather obscure) Namco games in updated arcade housings, which were designed by the artists who are doing the new web comics based upon them. Like Wonder Momo

Speaking of arcades, here’s something from NYCC last year; a stuffed arcade cab by Steff Bomb & ESC-Toy…

Remember Jenn De La Vega work in progress BMO outfit for Halloween? Guess what; it’s finished…

Here’s my pal Christopher Person receiving the Tiger handheld version of Sonic 2 as a kid. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the look of true happiness…

The following is not from someone I follow on Instagram, but was liked by Cory, and for good reason: it effectively shows how beautiful a white Vita truly is (by Lorenzo Grajales)…

For those who aren’t aware, we have a new addition to the Attract Mode collective: Kris Piotrowski! Who recently shared his screenshot from a Sound Shapes community level…

And remember that new comic Lamar is working on? It appears to be coming along just fine…

Here’s my good buddy Joel Carroll take on Samus. It’s rather refreshing to see the lead from Metroid with a different, and more realistic body type, you know?

Another pal of mine, Bryan Green, is without question the biggest fan of ET from the 2600. He seriously loves that game! And here’s his brand new, home made shirt, created in its honor…

I hate Gamestop for a number of reason, yet I always try to stop by any I come across anyway, on the off chance that their employees have some artistic talent and a sense of humor, as it pertains to creating replacement game cases (by Ashley, aka Omnicolore)…

And last but not least is Adam, a sneak peek into his Game Boy Advance collection, one that is unique to say the least…

Haha, I was walking through Santee Alley and some vendor had a bunch of shrink-wrapped GBA games for sale. He has to have been trying to sell them for a decade now.

Did you see any Destiny’s Child GBA games? I did some design work on those, during my Ubisoft days.
