My Mom Likes Wave Race 64

Last Saturday was my 25th birthday, and my wife Carolyna planned a great night. We ate dinner at my favorite ramen house, spent an hour or so at Arcade Infinity and finished off the night with flan and old school videogames back at our apartment. The videogames were courtesy of my brother-in-law who gifted me with 2000 Wii points, which I immediately put to good use by purchasing Super Mario World and Wave Race 64.
I had forgotten how much I love Wave Race 64. You really feel like you are plunging into each wave as you maneuver around the buoys. Even the warm up mode is fun, especially for Carolyna who gets stressed out by the typical videogame punishment/reward system.
Racing around the tracks brought back a lot of memories from junior high, in particular one from the day I bought the game used from someone at school. At the end of the day, I was walking with my friend Jason out to my mom's minivan in the middle of the after-school chaos. After dropping off my books and the game, we headed back inside for something I left in my locker. Just before we made it inside, I heard my mom yell, “Hey, Adam!”
I turned around to see her body halfway out the driver side window, clutching the game as she waved it in the air. Satisfied that she had my attention, she continued, “Does this game use the rumble pack?”
I didn't know what to think. I just stared at her until Jason looked at me and said, “Whoa... That is so cool.”
After reminding my mom of that experience yesterday she replied, “Oh yeah, I like Wave Race. I still go downstairs every now and then [my old Nintendo 64 is in my parent's basement] and play that and Mario Kart.”
I have to agree with Jason. My mom is pretty cool.
