FORT90ZINE #3 Approaches

FORT90ZINE #3 ON SALE APRIL 2010

Less than a month from now you'll be able to read the latest issue of FORT90ZINE, the publication that helped spark the videogame zine renaissance currently in effect. Matt Hawkins, Attract Mode's recent +1, is the man behind the mag, and this issue looks BOMPIN'. It contains contributions from Tiny Cartridge all-star Eric Caoili, Brian Liloia, Hilary Florido, and Mariel Cartwright aka kinuko. That's Mariel's wrap-around cover design above, minus all the text and the transparent stripe.

Now that you are frothing with anticipation, head over to the shop and pick up FORT90ZINE Issue 1 and Issue 2. They are just as relevant now as they were the day they were printed.

HARVEYJAMES Poster 01 Now Shipping

HARVEYJAMES Poster 01

The HARVEYJAMES™ posters are finally shipping! If you preordered one, it's already in the mail. It might even arrive today.

I love how these turned out. This was my first time screen printing posters, and I learned that it's pretty different than dealing with shirts. Luckily David Murray introduced me to Bob and Mike aka Two Rabbits Studios a few months ago. They printed these, and they'll be handling the rest of the series.

I added a gallery below that shows the magic behind the paper. Visual documentation provided by the photographer with the best mustache in LA, Ethan Saks.

HARVAYJAMES Poster 01

I'm pretty excited about this new project. HARVEYJAMES™ will be releasing one screen printed poster a month through Attract Mode.

You can preorder the first poster now. There will be an initial run of 50, with no promises of more being printed. So, go get it!

All the posters will correspond with Tim Roger's monthly column on Kotaku. This month's entry is “let's talk about jumping”.

New Products: Miniboss T-shirt, Unicorn Dream Attack CD and Bogus Journey Instruction Booklet

Miniboss T-shirt, Unicorn Dream Attack CD, Calvin & Hellen's Bogus Journey Instruction Booklet

I just added 3 new products to the shop.

Miniboss T-shirt by SEIBEI — $22
Unicorn Dream Attack - Love Bits — $12
Calvin & Hellen's Bogus Journey Instruction Booklet — $4

The Miniboss t-shirt was designed by David Murray for his t-shirt company, SEIBEI. David is a cool dude, and he's got a lot of talent, so expect more SEIBEI lovin's from Attract Mode in the future.

Love Bits is Unicorn Dream Attack's ode to your heart. It's really good. If you are into chip music, definitely check that one out.

And finally, Calvin & Hellen's Bogus Journey Instruction Booklet is Calvin Wong's ridiculously funny faux instruction booklet for the game he made with Hellen Jo and Derek Yu for Game Over/Continue. It's one of my favorite items in the shop, and it's only $4! Designed, printed, folded and stapled by the loving hands of Calvin himself.

Game Buddy “Cardboard Edition”

Game Buddy Cardboard Edition

This hand—stamped beauty shows up packed with all your goodies when you buy at least  $20  $25 worth from the shop.*

I contacted my internet buddy Spacesick with the idea, and he floored me with the design. If you can’t wait to see more Attractive Space collaborations, don't worry. We're currently working on a Cave Story t-shirt design that will hopefully be ready for the WiiWare launch. **squints eyes/crosses fingers/clenches rear**

And when I say, “We're working on…”, I mean I ask him to design something and he uses his crazy talent to create awesomes. It’s a good system.

Update: Some products don't fit in the box, like posters or other large items. If you order large items and/or adding the box will make your shipping charge go up drastically, I'll ship your order without the box. Also, the box won't fit in your order if you choose the USPS Flat Rate Small Box or USPS Flat Rate Envelope shipping options.

Attract Mode Shop Now Open!

Products from the Attract Mode shop

Go check it out!

I've been testing the shop with all the major web browsers and running test transactions for the past week, but the interwebs can be a tricky place. If you run into any problems, send me an email, and I'll help you out as soon as I can.

I had this idea for a videogame culture shop back in 2005, but I didn't start working on it earnestly until last fall. I've had a ton of support over the last year, from friends and family, and here are some people that I'd like to publicly thank:

  • Since day one, my hotty wife Carolyna has always backed me up and given me great ideas for the shop. Thanks for choosing to spend your life with a big videogame nerd like me!
  • My parents have always been there to help, whether I needed business expertise, general life wisdom, or a just good smack on the face.
  • Everyone that I've collaborated with, especially Anna Anthropy, James Harvey, Kyle Pulver, Cactus, Brandon Boyer, Eric Caoili, Matthew Hawkins, Ethan Saks, Mitch Ansara and Craig Adams.
  • Eric Nakamura for believing in this shop and sharing loads of experience and advice.
  • Derek Yu for his incredibly generous support, and for always wearing his monocle and moustache like a true gentleman.

So with that out of the way … Buy somethin' will ya!

Warning!! A New Shop Is Approaching

Hey, you made it! Attract Mode is a videogame culture shop that will be launching this spring. We are collaborating with designers and game makers to create and sell some pretty cool stuff. One of our products may have leaked, but there’s still a lot under wraps.

I’ve been planning the launch of this shop since 2006, so I am very excited that it’s finally happening. Make sure to subscribe to the RSS feed, and keep checking out this blog. In addition to the usual links and opinions, I’m going to have some collaboration announcements soon including a fun event in the land of Rice-a-Roni…
