Hey gamers, in Baldur’s Gate 3, you won’t just be alone on your journey. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet different pets that can aid you in battle and questing or just serve as company and item fetchers. Whether it’s a loyal dog, a mischievous imp, or a mysterious owl, these pets will add another layer of depth to your adventure. So keep your eyes open and your heart open, and you never know who might become your trusty companion on the road ahead.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s a pet called Us that players can add to their party at the beginning of the game. Us is a mind flayer minion that can be found by interacting with the Neural Apparatus in the north of the first room and passing a series of checks. Once freed from its body, Us will sprout legs and ask to go to the helm with you, after which it will join your party. Speaking to Us is an interesting experience, and it’s one of the first creatures you’ll encounter in the game. Although it may be disturbing and raise questions, it can be a big help in battle and questing.
If you’re interested in getting a spider pet in Baldur’s Gate 3, you should travel to the west of Silvanus Grove and take the Cragged Rock to the high ground. Keep an eye out for a spider egg nest nestled between some rocks in the corner. If you pass the Perception check, you’ll be able to get the eggs and they will join you as pets. However, if you fail, you can still get a spider pet by dropping and attacking the egg you acquire, which will spawn a spider swarm that will follow you around. So, be on the lookout for those spider eggs if you want a new companion to help you in your quests!
If you want to befriend an Owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have to take monstrous action. First, you need to go to the Owlbear nest and defeat the beast, sparing its cub. Next, travel to the Goblin Camp on the west side of the map and speak to the female goblin about “chicken-chasing.” Agree to play, catch the “chicken” (which is the Owlbear), and convince it to turn on its masters and wipe them out. Alternatively, you can tell the woman that you’re leaving with the Owlbear, but you might have to convince her or fight her. Once you get your Owlbear, it will appear in your camp if you rest, and you can care for it as it grows.
If you’re looking for a furry companion to add to your Baldur’s Gate 3 party, you can’t go wrong with Scratch the Dog. You’ll find him northeast of Blighted Village, mourning his dead owner. You can recruit him bypassing any of the checks and letting him smell you. Scratch will then follow you back to camp, where you can pet him and play fetch with him. As an added bonus, Scratch has a nose for finding items and will occasionally bring back useful items like healing potions. Remember to save before approaching him, though, as one bad roll can send him running.

Speaking to animals in Baldur’s Gate 3 can have various benefits. The Addled Frog in the Fetid Bog will reward you for helping it after dealing with the Hag. Rats, located throughout the map, can reveal where they stand morally and politically. Speaking to Sheep in the Sunlit Wetlands can reveal their true form before combat. Lastly, speaking to Goblin’s Spiders in the Goblin Camp can convince them to side with you in battle, making the fight easier. While speaking to animals may not always be necessary, it can provide players with useful information or extra advantages.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, dogs are not allowed in the city due to a city restriction which can be found among the books in the Arcane Tower in the Underdark. The restriction states that no animal larger than a peacock may gain entry to Baldur’s Gate. This seems to be an unpopular rule, especially among bear owners. It’s unclear what would happen if a druid turned into a bear or a badger while in the city. There are no toy dogs in Faerun, so dogs are not allowed in the city.
There are many animals players can encounter in Baldur’s Gate 3. From dogs to rats, owlbears to spiders, and even mind flayers, players can speak to and recruit many different pets throughout their journey. However, there is a city restriction in Baldur’s Gate that prohibits dogs from entering. This is based on a rule that no animal larger than a peacock can enter the city. Overall, interacting with animals in the game can provide benefits such as lore information, new companions, and item fetchers. So keep an eye out for any furry or slimy creatures that might cross your path in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3.
