Hey there, Barbarians! Are you struggling to switch weapons in Diablo 4? Well, fear not! We’ve got you covered with this ultimate guide on how to switch weapons like a pro. Get ready to dominate your enemies with the right weapons in hand. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on this guide. So, grab your weapons, and let’s get started!
The Barbarian class has the Arsenal system, which allows you to equip up to four weapons simultaneously. You can have a couple of one-handed weapons for dual-wielding, such as one-handed axes, swords, and maces for bludgeoning or slicing. Also, you can have one two-handed bludgeoning weapon like two-handed maces and hammers and one two-handed slicing weapon like two-handed axes, swords, and polearms.
Keep in mind that most of the active/castable skills have a required weapon in mind. For example, Flay needs a slicing weapon, either one-handed/dual-wielding or two-handed slicing. However, Whirlwind can use any Arsenal weapon, whether it’s dual-wielding, two-handed bludgeoning, or two-handed slicing. Also, Frenzy is only for dual-wielding, meaning two-handed weapons won’t be used. So, it’s essential to choose your weapons wisely and strategize your skills based on your Arsenal weapons to maximize your Barbarian’s effectiveness in combat.
To manually choose which weapons your Barbarian uses for each skill in Diablo 4 on PC, simply open the Abilities tab and hover over any of your unlocked skills in the Skill Tree. Then, press the middle mouse button to cycle through your applicable weapons. You can do this for any and all Barbarian skills that allow for different types of weapons. If you want to swap weapons assigned to a skill, press S to open the Skills Menu, then hover your mouse over the skill you want to change and press the middle mouse button to cycle through the available weapons.
Keep in mind that there is a tactical advantage to switching between different weapon types, and there is even an Aspect reward for completing the Defiled Catacomb dungeon that provides buffs when you switch between weapon types.
If you’re playing Diablo 4 on the console or with a controller, switching weapons as a Barbarian is a bit different. To do so, open your Abilities tab in the Character Menu and press in on the left analogue stick on the skill you want to customize. Then, press X to cycle through the eligible weapons and select which type of weapon(s) to use with that skill. While it might take a bit of getting used to, once you’ve mastered it, you’ll be able to take on any demon that comes your way with your arsenal of weapons.

Swapping weapons as a Barbarian in Diablo 4 is essential because it provides bonuses to skills and passives, depending on the weapon type. For instance, some skills like Flay have a higher chance of making enemies vulnerable if you use a specific type of weapon.
Additionally, the Diablo 4 Barbarian Expertise system rewards players for using different weapons, as each type of weapon has its own buffs that increase the more you amass kills with them. By swapping weapons strategically and using different skills, you can gain Expertise points for multiple weapons, which can be incredibly useful in combat. So, it’s definitely worth taking the time to figure out how to switch weapons effectively in Diablo 4.
Don’t forget that there are even more weapon techniques to unlock once you reach level 15 in Diablo 4. These techniques will be available to you via a quest that unlocks them, but be aware that the quest is located in the northwest corner of the map near the Dry Steppes. Unfortunately, this area is not accessible in the beta, so you’ll have to wait until the full game is released to get your hands on these powerful techniques. Keep grinding and leveling up your Barbarian to unleash their full potential!
Switching weapons as a Barbarian in Diablo 4 can be a little tricky, but it’s an essential part of maximizing your character’s potential. Whether you’re customizing your weapon loadout to take advantage of skill upgrades and passives or building up expertise with specific types of weapons, there are plenty of reasons to swap between your arsenal. Remember that on PC, you can use the middle mouse button to cycle between applicable weapons, while on console, you’ll need to press in on the left analog stick and then use the X button to switch. With these techniques in mind, you’ll be well on your way to dominating the hordes of hell with your Barbarian’s formidable weapon skills.
