While we’ll have to wait for the full release on August 31, 2023 to see them in action, we can’t help but get excited about what this class will bring to the game. With their mastery of martial arts and the power of Ki, Monks are sure to be a force to be reckoned with. So, let’s get ready to kick some serious butt and dive into all the details of this upcoming class.

What Do We Expect From Monk Class in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Monk class will be added to Baldur’s Gate 3 upon its release, and we expect to see a master of martial arts with the ability to harness the power of their body for physical and spiritual perfection. Monk’s primary ability is Dexterity and Wisdom, with saving throw proficiencies in Strength and Dexterity.

They have proficiency in simple weapons and shortswords, and no armor proficiency. Additionally, Monks can choose one type of artisan’s tools or one musical instrument as their tool proficiency, and choose two skills from Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Insight, Religion, and Stealth as their class skills. Overall, we can expect Monks to be formidable melee combatants with a unique focus on spiritual energy and martial arts techniques.

What Monk Subclasses Are Coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 (based on 5e D&D)?

There were four different traditions that monks can follow in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Each tradition provides unique abilities and powers to the monk.

The Way of the Open Hand is focused on martial arts combat and manipulation of Ki. At level 3, Monks gain the Open Hand Technique, which allows them to impose effects on enemies when they hit with Flurry of Blows attacks. At level 6, they gain the ability to heal themselves with Wholeness of Body, and at level 11, they can enter a special meditation that provides the sanctuary spell effect with Tranquility. Finally, at level 17, they gain the Quivering Palm ability, which can set up vibrations in a creature’s body and deal massive damage or even kill them if they fail their saving throw.

The Way of Shadow emphasizes stealth and subterfuge. At level 3, Monks gain Shadow Arts, which allows them to duplicate the effects of certain spells using ki points, as well as the minor illusion cantrip. At level 6, they gain Shadow Step, which allows them to teleport to another dimly lit area as a bonus action, and they gain an Advantage on their first melee attack before the end of the turn. At level 11, they gain Cloak of Shadows, which allows them to become invisible in dim light or darkness as an action. Finally, at level 17, they gain Opportunist, which allows them to make a melee attack against a creature that is within 5 feet of them when that creature is hit by an attack made by another creature.

The Way of Four Elements allows a monk to harness the elements using Ki. Monks have access to several class passives, including Fangs of the Fire Snake, Fist of Four Thunders, Fist of Unbroken Air, Rush of the Gale Spirits, Sweeping Cinder Strike, and Water Whip. Each of these abilities provides the monk with unique elemental powers.

Finally, the Way of the Long Death focuses on death and decay. At level 3, Monks gain the Touch of Death ability, which allows them to extract vitality from creatures as they near their demise. At level 6, they gain Hour of Reaping, which allows them to strike fear into creatures and possibly even kill weak ones. At level 11, they gain Mastery of Death, which provides resistance to necrotic and radiant damage, as well as immunity to disease and poison. Finally, at level 17, they gain Touch of the Long Death, which allows them to instantly kill a creature with a melee attack if it fails a saving throw.

Is There Any Way To Play as a Monk in Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access?

With the latest addition of the Sorcerer class in Baldur’s Gate 3, some players may be disappointed to find out that the Monk class has yet to be officially released. However, there is a mod available that allows players to play as a Monk in the game before it is officially added.

Modders have recreated spells and armors from the game to create the Monk class, which offers impressive boosts to physical and magical attacks, as well as unique roleplaying opportunities. It’s important to note that while Larian Studios encourages modding and players won’t face penalties for using mods, installing them can sometimes compromise game saves and introduce unknown glitches. Nevertheless, for those eager to play as a Monk in Baldur’s Gate 3, this mod offers a great opportunity to do so.

In summary, Monks are a highly anticipated class that we can’t wait to see in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although they are currently unavailable in early access, players can use mods to recreate the Monk class and experience all of its unique abilities. The Monk class is known for its mastery of martial arts, using the power of the body to strike down foes and manipulate ki to enhance their abilities. We can expect the Monk class to have a primary ability in Dexterity and Wisdom, proficiency in simple weapons and shortswords, and subclasses such as Four Elements, Open Hand, and Shadow. Other expected skills and abilities include Extra Attack, Stunning Strike, Evasion, and Diamond Soul. Overall, we can’t wait to see what Larian Studios has in store for the Monk class when Baldur’s Gate 3 is fully released.
