Hey gamers, are you ready for a spooky, sci-fi, supernatural, open-world shooter with co-op and RPG elements? Well, get ready for Redfall! Developed by Arkane Studios, the creators of Dishonored 2, Prey, and Deathloop, Redfall draws inspiration from all of these titles and more to bring a fun new twist to the typical FPS survival game. With powerful psionic abilities and near god-like status, the high-ranking vampires are a force to be reckoned with. Are you up for the challenge? Read on to find out more about one of the most highly anticipated upcoming Xbox Series X|S games to release this year!
Redfall is set to release on May 2, 2023. Originally scheduled for a Summer 2022 release, Redfall was delayed to give the team more time to bring the game to life. The delay seems to have been worth it, as the game looks promising and polished, and gamers can get their hands on it in just a few weeks. So mark your calendars and get ready to join the fight against the vampire invasion in Redfall.
Redfall will be released on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game will also be added to the full Game Pass list on the first day of release.
Unfortunately, Redfall will not be available on PlayStation 5, Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Although Xbox One is not listed as an official platform, Redfall will be playable via Xbox Cloud Gaming, which will allow owners of the last-gen system to access the game via the Azure Cloud streaming network, given that your internet is high-speed enough to support it.
Based on what we know so far, Redfall’s gameplay promises to be a thrilling and unique experience. The game combines the elements of a first-person shooter with supernatural powers and an open-world environment, offering players a range of choices in terms of how to approach combat encounters. The game also features a four-player co-op, which should add an extra layer of fun and strategy to the gameplay.
Redfall’s gameplay seems to prioritize tactical expression and player choice, as co-creative director Harvey Smith explained in a recent interview. Players will be able to use stealth to get the drop on enemies, avoid combat encounters, and reach good vantage points. Additionally, players will have access to a range of weapons and damage types, along with powerful supernatural abilities, to take on the vampire enemies.
Another interesting aspect of Redfall’s gameplay is the AI with simulated hearing and sight, which should lead to dynamic gameplay moments. Players will need to employ their wits and strategy to creep up on enemies, avoid notice, and use the right weapons and damage types to succeed. The game also features staking vampires that have been petrified by UV light, adding a unique twist to the gameplay.
Redfall will offer players four unique playable characters to choose from: Devinder Crousley, Layla Ellison, Jacob Boyer, and Remi De La Rosa. Each character has their own background story and set of abilities, ranging from a verified cryptid hunter who can craft anti-vampire weaponry to a biomedical engineering student who gains superpowers after a medical trial has gone wrong. There is also a marksman with a vampiric eye and a Coast Guard member who built a robot cohort for assistance. In addition, players may have a chance to acquire a fifth hero with post-launch DLC – a vampire. Each character brings something new and exciting to the game, adding to the overall fun and replayability of Redfall.
Redfall will feature crossplay support across all platforms, according to the developer. This means that players will be able to team up with friends without any restrictions, regardless of whether they are playing on Xbox, PC, or Epic Game Store. This is great news for players who want to enjoy the game with their friends who may be playing on a different platform.
Crossplay has become increasingly important in the gaming industry, as it allows players to connect and play together regardless of the platform they are on. This feature has become more prevalent in recent years, as developers and publishers recognize the benefits of opening up their games to a wider audience. With Redfall’s crossplay support, players will have the ability to team up with anyone, regardless of which platform they are on.
Redfall is also expected to offer a range of co-op gameplay features, including shared missions, loot, and rewards. Players will have the ability to work together to take on the vampire threat, using a variety of weapons and abilities to overcome the challenges that await them on the island of Redfall. With the addition of crossplay, players will have even more opportunities to team up with their friends and take on the game’s challenges together.
Redfall offers players the flexibility to enjoy the game in both multiplayer co-op and solo modes, so no one will get bored. While Redfall can be played with up to four players, Arkane has confirmed that the entire game can be experienced alone as well. The studio is known for its narrative-driven games, and they wanted to make sure that the same intricate storytelling is retained in Redfall, regardless of whether it’s played in co-op or solo. Although playing with friends brings Arkane’s love of systemic gameplay to the forefront, playing solo allows for a more exploratory pace, and players can use recon and stealth to gather intel on encounters and avoid enemies or get the drop on them. So, whether you prefer to play with others or explore the world of Redfall solo, you’re sure to have an exciting and engaging experience.
In Redfall, players will have the ability to create and customize their playable characters with an expansive range of skills and abilities, granting each hero their own unique playstyle. By completing both the main campaign and side missions throughout the open world, players can earn skill points to upgrade their character’s abilities, unlocking new and passive abilities.
The available abilities are split between four skill trees, and players can choose how to allocate their points. Each character will have similarly deep skill trees, offering a high level of customization to suit different playstyles. In addition to character customization, players can equip one Vampire God Remnant, one Blood Remnant, and three Soul Remnants, although the details on these items are yet to be revealed.
As for weapons, players can equip up to three at any one time, with each weapon having randomized traits to make each drop feel unique. Some of the weapons are unique vampire-hunting weapons that can be used tactically to eliminate the vampire threat.
In Redfall, you’ll encounter vampires as your primary enemy, but they won’t be the glamorous type seen in movies. Instead, these are vicious predators who feed on the vulnerable to gain power. These vampires range from cannon fodder minions to highly-specialized enemies with powerful abilities.
Redfall’s vampires were created by science as part of a longevity experiment, and they have manipulated the island’s citizens into becoming subservient cultists who hunt down survivors. Aside from vampires, players may also have to face off against the military, as hinted by some of the weapons seen in the game trailers.
Redfall’s open world offers players an array of dangers, from cultist strongholds to psychic spaces called Nests. Players can help Redfall by taking neighborhoods back from the vampires and the cultists who worship them.
As you explore the game world, you’ll find an extensive range of weapons, from handcrafted weapons to high-grade military equipment. Redfall also features a loot system, where players can find weapons, vampire relics, and other resources like psychic residue that charge your character’s ultimate ability. Different types of loot, like Remnants and Supplies, can impact your defense, health, skills, or weapons. Weapons and Remnants also have rarity types, and players can find money pouches to purchase additional supplies.
In Redfall, tactically expressive gameplay allows players to use stealth, reconnaissance, and special abilities to gain an advantage over enemies and make progress in taking back Redfall from the vampire threat.
Overall, Redfall is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the world of co-op shooter games. With its open-world design, players can explore a vast and diverse landscape filled with danger and mystery, all while taking on vampires and cultists with a massive arsenal of weapons and abilities. So, prepare to get your vampire-hunting gear ready, and keep an eye out for any further news and updates on this highly anticipated game.
